When You Need Neurotoxin vs. Fillers
Cosmetic injectables have come a long way. Today, millions of Americans choose to get these quick, convenient treatments to fend off the signs of aging.
But, because each face ages differently, the injectable that’s right for your friend might not be the best option for you. Specifically, you have the option to choose between neurotoxin-based injectables — such as Botox® — and dermal fillers.
At Stellar Skin and Laser in Tempe, Arizona, Cindi Kerzie, RN, CMLT, and our team can help you determine which injectable — or combination of injectables — is right for your cosmetic goals. In this blog, we give you a brief overview of neurotoxins and fillers and what they do best.
Understanding neurotoxins
Neurotoxins — such as Botox, Xeomin®, and Dysport® and JUVEAU— all of which we offer at our office, are designed to treat dynamic wrinkles. These wrinkles develop due to years of making repeated facial expressions. Over time, the muscles that make these expressions can begin to stay in a semicontracted state. This then pushes up the skin above them to cause wrinkles.
The most common dynamic wrinkles are:
- Frown lines (the lines between your eyebrows)
- Forehead lines
- Crow’s feet (wrinkles at the outer corners of your eyes)
Neurotoxins work by temporarily freezing targeted muscles. Once the muscles relax, the skin above them smooths out.
Understanding fillers
Fillers are designed to treat static wrinkles. These wrinkles develop due to issues with aging, such as volume loss. As your body produces less collagen, for example, you can lose plumpness. This can contribute to:
- Deeper nasolabial folds
- Thinning lips and vertical lip lines
- Hollow cheeks
- Sagging jowls
Fortunately, we can reverse these signs of aging by using dermal fillers. These cosmetic injectables help give volume to areas that need it.
Here at Stellar Skin and Laser, we offer a variety of fillers, including the following:
- Juvéderm® Family of Fillers
- Restylane® Family of Fillers
- Radiesse®
- SCULPTRA
Getting treatment
When you come to Stellar Skin and Laser, we give you a thorough evaluation and discuss your treatment options. Then we develop a treatment plan to help you look your best. If you have both dynamic and static wrinkles, we can design a plan that combines neurotoxins and fillers.
Treatments are quick, require little to no downtime, and can help you turn back the clock and look your best. Treatments usually take no more than 15 minutes to 1 hour, and, depending on which options you choose, results can last anywhere from a few months (with neurotoxins) to a year or more (with some dermal fillers). And, when the time comes, you can get touch-ups.
To get an evaluation and learn about your treatment options, book an appointment online or over the phone with Stellar Skin and Laser today.
